Update 14/7/2016
-Not much news, we can only confirm that Eevolutions are NOT affected by terrains, weight, height, or moves.
-I am counting HP increase per CP increase and how weight affects it.
-The database is now open for contributions. It has subway info for Jakarta commuter line in progress as well. Please behave to ensure the data integrity stays intact. The egg table is discontinued since Serebii.net has the complete one up.

Update 10/7/2016
-Pokemon’s max CP will increase on multiplier ~1.1 per trainer level, requiring ~2-3 times of upgrade to max it again if it’s maxed in previous level.
-Stardust level is now 200,400,600,800,1000,1300,1600,1900,2200. Upgrades above cost 1000 need two candies each. The stardust needed may be based on the true maximum max.CP at trainer’s max level

Update 9/7/2016
-Each Pokemon species is exclusively in one egg group (2 km, 5 km, or 10 km) so one won’t find a 2 km Pokemon in 5 km egg. All starters including Pikachu can be found in 2 km eggs.
-Every Pokemon species has a certain evolution multiplier that is not affected by the trainer’s level. For example, Zubat has a multiplier around 3.2 so a 100 CP Zubat would be a CP ~320 Golbat when evolved. Prediction may be off by 0.1-0.2 factor since the number is not precise yet. Doduo, on the other hand, has multiplier of 2.2 when evolving to Dodrio.

-Each pokemon species has a fixed number of maximum CP and the max will increase according to the trainer’s level. Now analyzing the increment per level. Trainer’s max level and max possible CP needed.
-Player will generally meet wild Pokemon with better CP the higher their level is.
-Pokemon has a tendency to evolve into a Pokemon with lower relative weight than the current weight (example XL Pidgey evolving into XS Pidgeotto). What is affected by weight and height?
-Stardust power up cost start at 200 the lowest, and the highest currently known is 1300 in these sequence: 200,400,600,800,1000, 1300.
-Player will not be allowed to upgrade if the stardust’s effect (7-8%) will cause it to exceed the maximum CP for that trainer’s level. It can be upgraded again once the player level ups, since the cap will rise that way.

Saya menulis ini karena sejauh ini saya belum dapat menemukan pembahasan serupa mengenai mekanisme Pokemon Go secara kuantitatif baik dalam bahasa Inggris maupun Indonesia. Data didapatkan selama dua hari, yakni 6-7 Juli 2016 di Bandung, Indonesia dan semua eksperimen dilakukan atas bantuan teman-teman saya. Tentu pengumpulan data ini masih sangat kecil jumlahnya sehingga kemungkinan ada perhitungan yang kurang akurat.

1. Sistem CP

Di atas setiap Pokemon terdapat lengkungan 180 derajat dan angka CP yang dimiliki sang Pokemon. CP (Combat Point) menyatakan kekuatan Pokemon di pertarungan, sehingga semakin besar semakin baik. Bisa dilihat bahwa lengkungan dapat terisi hingga titik tertentu. Apa maksudnya ini? Lengkungan 180 derajat menyatakan jumlah maksimum CP yang bisa dicapai oleh spesies Pokemon tersebut. Titik berkilau adalah CP si Pokemon saat ini. Ini sangat penting untuk menentukan apakah Pokemon tersebut layak di-upgrade, di-evolusi, atau dipertahankan.

Metode kasar menentukan maksimum adalah dengan melihat titik saat ini dan memperkirakan posisinya terhadap maksimum. Misal angka CP saat ini adalah 50 dan berada kira kira sepertiga penuh, maka CP maksimum kurang lebih 150.

Saya menginginkan angka akurat, maka kita membutuhkan bantuan busur derajat. Dengan mengetahui berapa derajat sudut yang dibentuk titik saat ini, kita dengan mudah mendapatkan nilai CP maksimum si Pokemon.

Saya ingin dapat membuat tabel data CP maksimum untuk tiap Pokemon karena akan sangat membantu perhitungan mekanisme lainnya, sehingga jika ada yang dapat mengumpulkannya dalam Google Spreadsheet maka akan baik sekali.

2. Evolusi

CP akan berlipat ganda saat evolusi. Awalnya saya mengira ada faktor pengali tertentu, namun ternyata solusinya mudah sekali. Pokemon akan berevolusi menjadi Pokemon dengan persentase CP sama. Zubat dengan CP 80% maksimum Zubat akan menjadi Golbat dengan CP 80% maksimum Golbat. Ini bisa dibuktikan dengan mengambil gambar sebelum dan sesudah evolusi dan membandingkan meteran CP-nya.

3. Efek stardust

Stardust berfungsi meningkatkan CP Pokemon. Kenaikannya akan berbeda-beda sesuai spesies Pokemon, namun ternyata berdasarkan percobaan, setiap pemakaian stardust akan menaikkan CP Pokemon sebesar 7-8% CP maksimum spesiesnya. Jika CP maksimum 100, maka pemakaian stardust akan menaikkan CP sebesar 7 atau 8 (karena angkanya harus bulat. Pembulatan ke atas atau ke bawah belum diketahui). Angka pasti akan dihitung begitu saya dapat melanjutkan proses pengumpulan data.

4. Harga power-up

Jumlah stardust yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan upgrade akan semakin tinggi seiring meningkatnya jumlah CP. Angka pasti belum selesai dihitung namun perkiraan kasar adalah:

200 stardust bila CP saat ini<30% CP maksimum spesies

400 stardust bila 30% CP maksimum spesies<CP saat ini<60%

600 stardust bila CP saat ini>60% CP maksimum spesies

(untuk Pokemon di tingkat dasar. Pokemon tingkat evolusi pertama dan kedua punya angka lain)

5. Radius radar

Akan dihitung besok. Eksperimen membutuhkan minimal dua orang. Jalan bersama hingga menemukan Pokemon di titik yang sama. Satu orang diam sementara satu orang lain berjalan menjauh sampai tanda tiga jejak berubah menjadi dua jejak. Hitung jarak. Menjauh lagi sampai tanda dua jejak berubah menjadi satu jejak. Hitung jarak.

Kemungkinan derau data pada pengaruh stabilitas koneksi internet dan kemungkinan kesulitan ada pada waktu yang dibutuhkan mengerjakan ini sampai Pokemon menghilang dari peta.

Catatan tambahan: penggunaan incense akan memanggil Pokemon acak ke lokasi, belum tentu spesies yang menurut radar dekat dengan kita.

Berdasarkan hitungan ringan, menurut saya Pokemon yang pantas di-evolusi adalah yang memiliki CP minimal 65-70% CP maksimumnya.

Yang masih akan dihitung: semua angka yang tidak jelas menyatakan apa dan untuk apa. Ada saran?

English Version

Written because I haven’t found any like this so far, focusing on the quantitative mechanism rather than the gameplay. Data gathering and experimentations done with my friends in Bandung, Indonesia in July 6-7th. Inaccuracy bounds to exist due to small data pool.

1. CP system

At the Pokemon status screen, there is a 180 degree arc above every Pokemon picture and under their CP count. CP (Combat Point) shows the Pokemon’s capacity in battle, larger number is better. The arc signifies that Pokemon species’ maximum CP while the starlike point shows the creature’s current CP relative to the maximum, and from this data we can derive a lot of insight for the best decision in upgrading, evolving, and keeping a Pokemon.

You can roughly estimate a species’ maximum CP by looking at your Pokemon’s CP and its position on the arc. Suppose te Pokemon has 50 CP and the starlike point is at roughly one-third of the arc, then the species’ maximum CP is roughly 150.

When accuracy calls, brush up your math tools and bring a protractor. Elementary math will give you the species’ maximum CP at once. I wish to compile a maximum CP table for each Pokemon species since this will greatly expand the variety of further analysis I can attempt, so if anyone could help me build one in a Google Spreadsheet, it will be much appreciated.

2. Evolution

Your Pokemon’s CP would be greatly improved by evolving. Instead of a fixed multiplier, the solution is very simple. Pokemon will have the same percentage of CP from maximum when evolving, so a Zubat with 80% max Golbat CP would be a Golbat with 80% max Golbat CP. As a proof, take a picture of your Pokemon before and after evolving and compare the arc.

3. Stardust Effect

Stardust improves a Pokemon’s CP. the increase is different for every species of Pokemon, but from experimentation I get that every usage of Stardust increase a Pokemon’s CP by 7-8% of its species’ maximum CP. For a species with 100 maximum CP, each usage of stardust will increase the creature’s CP by 7 or 8 points (the number have to be integer, but whether the rounding is up or down is uncertain yet). I will try to get the exact number as soon as possible.

4. Power-up price

The amount of stardust needed for an upgrade will go higher depending on the current CP’s position against the maximum CP. I haven’t done crunching the number but the very rough estimate are:

200 stardust if current CP<30% of the species’ maximum CP

400 stardust if 30% of the species’ maximum CP<icurrent CP<60% of the species’ maximum CP

600 stardust if current CP>60% of the species’ maximum CP

these apply only for Pokemon of the ground level of evolution (Bulbasaur, Charmander, etc. The number for first and second evolution stage Pokemon are different. Still investigated).

5. Radar radius

Calculated soon. Experiment will need at least two participants. Walk until both find a Pokemon on the same spot. One person stays while the other walks away until the mark on the radar change from three to two, measure and note. Walk away until the mark changes from two to one, measure and note.

However, this needs a stable internet connection and there is a chance the Pokemon may disappear before the experiment is done.

Extra note: Incense calls random Pokemon to the user’s location, and the variety that appears might not be the same as the variety shown in ‘nearby’ radar.

Based on these data, I consider Pokemon worthy enough to spend those candies on are those with CP at least 65-70% of its species’ maximum.

 

Will keep on gathering data and making sense of random numbers in game that don’t have any in-game explanation whatsoever. Chime in if you have any suggestion, correction, or anything.

Also because Rentenir insists I do it, thanks to Zubat for everything. None of these calculations would be possible if we are not having a flood of Zubat here.
